Patriots Roll to 50–0 Win Over Wright State

The George Mason Club Football team put together their most complete performance of the season, shutting out Wright State 50–0 at RAC Field in Fairfax. The victory moved George Mason to 2–1 on the year. It marked the first career win for Head Coach Orvin Weatherly, solidifying the Patriots as a strong contender in the NCFA Mid-Atlantic South Division.

Early Defense and Special Teams Set the Tone

George Mason opened the game with defensive pressure that immediately swung momentum. The Patriots jumped out to an early 4–0 lead behind two safeties, both created through relentless pursuit at the line of scrimmage.

The second safety was set up by a perfectly placed punt from Austin Moore, which pinned Wright State at its own two-yard line. The next play resulted in another defensive stop in the end zone, giving the Patriots control from the start.

Later in the first half, George Mason appeared to extend the lead on a punt return for a touchdown, but a penalty on the return team negated the score.

In the second half, the defense struck again when Nate Green intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown, adding to a dominant night on both sides of the ball.

Shuaib, Stokes, and the Offense in Rhythm

Freshman quarterback Mohamed “Mo” Shuaib led the offense efficiently, completing 12 of 20 passes for 225 yards and three touchdowns. His command and accuracy helped the Patriots sustain drives and capitalize on favorable field position.

Running back Fred Stokes III provided balance on the ground with 12 carries for 101 yards and a touchdown. In the passing game, Theo Assan tallied three receptions for 114 yards and two touchdowns, while Malachi Smitten contributed three receptions for 92 all-purpose yards and two scores.

Defensive Consistency from Start to Finish

Freshman defensive tackle Giovanni “Gio” Cooper anchored the front with five tackles, three tackles for loss, four quarterback pressures, and two sacks, earning NCFA Defensive Player of the Week honors. George Mason’s defense dictated the pace throughout, controlling the trenches and forcing key mistakes.

Mid-Atlantic South Division Outlook

Elsewhere in the Mid-Atlantic South Division, Coppin State edged Columbus State 20–19, keeping all three teams tightly packed in the standings. With George Mason now hitting stride, the upcoming divisional games could determine the path to postseason play.

Looking Ahead

The Patriots travel to Columbia, South Carolina, next weekend to face the University of South Carolina Club Football team on Sunday, October 26, at 11 a.m. George Mason will then close out the regular season with two pivotal divisional matchups:

  • Nov. 1 (1 p.m.) – vs. Columbus State (Fairfax, Va.)
  • Nov. 8 – at Coppin State (Baltimore, Md.)

With a balanced attack, an aggressive defense, and Coach Weatherly earning his first victory, George Mason Club Football has firmly established itself as a team to watch in the NCFA Mid-Atlantic South Division.
